Three Soliloquies

Three Soliloquies presents a set of mediative explorations on the character of the solo guitar. Moving between moods of atmospheric rubato and pulsating restlessness, these solo showpieces reflect the unique and uncertain spirit of the time of their compositions, in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally written for guitarist Kenneth Meyer.

I have a bird in spring

A setting of the poem by Emily Dickinson. I have a bird in spring deals thematically with loss and return, trust and independence, and the cyclical nature of life. The work is cast in shimmering harmonies that move between stability and ambiguity.

Pattern Dances

A suite of five movements for solo organ, with evocative titles that capture the physicality and kinesis of the musical gestures: "Pulse"; "Breathe"; "Glide"; "Tiptoe"; "Spin". Originally composed for performance on a Baroque organ, this virtuosic exploration of developmental musical processes allows for flexibility in performance on a variety of organs.

Three Meditations
for Organ

In this work, each movement evokes an abstract memorial to aspects of a church service.  The movement titles ("Alleluia"; "Prayer"; "Amen") reflect the individual spirit of each reflection; together they form a stirring, contemplative tribute to prayer. Originally written for organist Anne Laver.
